Brighouse is the 2nd big town in the metropolitan district of Calderdale in the county of West Yorkshire, England. A 2001 census gave the town's people when 32,198.

A town is placed on the River Calder, 4 miles (6 km) east of Halifax in the Pennines. These are served by Junction 25 of the M62.

A title Brighouse (or even "Bridge House") originates from either a building in (or even or so) a bridge on top the River Calder. Within its early history, it was the hamlet of the nearby town of Rastrick.

Architecture

Both churches within Brighouse keep close at hand stained glass from the William Morris factory, designed by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Ford Madox Brown and Edward Burne-Jones.

History

Within prehistoric times, there was a ford called Snake Hill Ford across a Calder - this was a portion of the Roman route between Wakefield and Manchester.

The wooden structure known as Rastrick Bridge was recorded as existence present inside 1275. A bridge was replaced by a single built using timber donated by John Hanson in 1514. Hanson's boy funded the stone replacement for this bridge around 1558.

A flow of any stream provided power for the flour milling industry and a textile mills. Brighouse's industry received the boost through the construction of the Calder and Hebble Navigation, started around 1757 by the engineer John Smeaton.

A Halifax & Huddersfield Turnpike Work of 1823 allowed for a building of Calder Bridge over what was to turn into the A641 road ; tolls were abolished on the bridge within 1875 and extensive widening work around was undertaken within 1905 and 1999 (both one latter dates existence commemorated within dedication stones on the bridge).

Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band

Brighouse is the page of the easily-known & most chart-topping Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band, founded in 1881 and associated also using Brighouse's neighbour Rastrick. It originally formed under a title A Brighouse & Rastrick Temperance Brass B& and took their todays title in the early 20th century.

A band won a National Brass Band Contest around 1946 at the Royal Albert Hall and in 1968 they won the 1st Brass Band Globe Championship.

Within 1977 they recorded The Floral Dance which reached Total Two in the UK Top 40 stock & index charts and stayed there for Nine weeks, inspiring radio DJ Terry Wogan to release his own version a bit of period late.

Within 1993 they became the foremost Yorkshire team to waround the Everthing England Masters Brass Band Championship, the effort it to were repetition in 1998. A band too won a National Brass Band Championship Finals within 1997 and 1998, and a European Championships around 1998.
